I posted a message a while back about how most of the exotica demos locked my machine up. I though that since I never got any kind of response, that I'd repost hoping to get a response. I have a 4MB Diamond Stealth 3D 4000 using DirectX 7a. I am running at 800x600x24bit. I have 64MB RAM and am using a Celeron 566MHz. The sound card I have is a SoundBlaster PCI128. Hope this helps to come up with a fix. Mike Hurley ===== It compiled. The first screen came up. Ship it. --Bill Gates __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I've no association with Exotica other than being a happy user, but for what it's worth I can see I can be of any help. Hm, that is a bit puzzling. In terms of power, I can at least verify you have more than enough of everything to get them going. On my old 200mhz computer I can run Exotica aps at a satisfying speed. Which examples have worked for you so far? Oh, and apologies in advance if I ask any insulting questions....just want to cover all the bases. :) The first thing to make sure of, when you unzipped it, did you keep the directory structure intact? Most of them load media from various subdirectorys, so that could be the problem if only the individual files were unzipped. Let's see....another problem could be joystick initilization. I _think_ this was changed, but I recall when Exotica was first released it would allways lock up when I tried it on a computer with no gamepad, if a call to initialise the joystick was given. Hmmm....that's all I can think of off hand. Sorry, I was hoping I'd have more ideas. If you're willing, lets give this a try. Could you see if these two examples lock your computer, blit_bmp.exw and Generic.exw? If either lock up your system, could you look right after for a file in that directory called E_Report.txt? Or if neither of these do, could you run one of the problematic examples, and in either case post the text from that file here? It's a basic log of some of exotica's functions as they're executed and should give some hints. Shoot, looking at generic.exw I notice there's no debug file in there. If you add atom debugfile debugfile = allocate_string("E_Report_Generic") c_proc(REPORT_MODE,{debugfile, 1}) imediatly after the commented text at the begining of generic.exw 's MainLoop_Init() it should create one for that example when run, called E_Report_Generic Hmmm...hope this might wind up being some use.....I think you'll be very happy with Exotica if we can get it running on your system ^^ Oh, and you might be able to break out of an exotica lockup by pressing alt-tab-enter or at least in the majority of cases on this computer I can. On my other computer that dosn't work very often, so who knows :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Hurley" <mike_hurley_2 at YAHOO.COM> Sent: Saturday, November 04, 2000 7:26 PM Subject: [WIN] ATTN: EXOTICA'S KEEPER > I posted a message a while back about how most of the > exotica demos locked my machine up.

Hi Mike, I apologize for not responding sooner. Your machines specs should be okay. Please try what Naflign said in his post, specially saying what examples are causing you the problems( thanks Naflign for the troublshooting response ). Also, they should generate an 'E_Report.txt' text document file. If you can, please email me the generated report after a you run the example that's causing you the problems. I don't have the Euphoira mailing list sent to me daily anymore. I stop by at the mailing archives every now and then to see if there is any new exotica messages here. Unfortunitly, I haven't been checking here regulary like I should. I do constantly go to the Exotica forum to check for any new messages there( http://pub19.ezboard.com/bexoticadxgamelibrary ). I look forward in trying fix the problems you have. You might want to continue this on the Exotica forum were I can respond to you faster... ---------------------------- Todd Riggins Exotecha Enterprises http://exotica.iwarp.com emailto:triggins at airmail.net
