Why can't you show statistics on downloads ?
I would like to know how many user's are using
my libraries. Then we would know what libraries
are of interest and what to support. The micro money
doesn't always seem to reflect the use.

I could set up my hit counter to work for this.
You would need a web page(geocities should work)
with a link to your program and the hit counter image.
You sould definately avoid free hit counter websites,
since I no longer download anything using these sites
due to many of them using the "nitrous" super-virus.

I have statistics, but I don't think they mean a whole lot.
Your w32engin.zip is one of the top files for downloads
(well below the 2.4 Interpreter download package, but above
90% of other user contributions). It has been "accessed" 172 times
in the past 6 days, but one download can equal one access,
or it might be several accesses, depending on the browser I suppose.
A large file like yours will have more accesses per download.
Other issues:
- I have no automated way of collecting/saving the statistics
- I don't want to use another Web site with ads etc. just to do it
- Authors will download their own files, just to boost the count,
thereby wasting my bandwidth, and rendering the statistics
meaningless.
- the count shows the number of people who liked the description,
not the number who liked the file
- files on the main page will be downloaded more than those
on other pages. People will submit trivial updates just to
get on the main page.
- other than a few obvious exceptions, the range of download
counts isn't that great. Some people download just about anything
just to take a quick look at it.

And a few people and/or kats host the files on their own sites, and RDS
doesn't have those statistics.

Neither do download counts.
I've downloaded win32lib at least twice.
but I've not used it for anything. Play with once or twice
and then toss it to the side.
Just cause I download and investigate something, Doesn't mean I
find it useful. It would be more meaningful to have votes and feedback
to libs that have been tried. That doesn't gaurantee that a person will
vote or provide feedback. But it does make it possible for even 1
person to respond with, "This crap don't work." or "Works great for
me." or "Great learning tool." or "I endorse this."
