1. Nexus Radio Review

Hello All,

If anyone is interested Softpedia has given Nexus Radio an extensive review.
I figure since Nexus Radio is entirely written in Euphoria, some EU users
might be interested in knowing what others think about the performance of
an EU written product. You can read the review by clicking the following
link: http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/windows/Nexus-Radio-Review-36434.shtml

Scroll down to: “Video killed the radio star”, that is where the review
begins.

PS: Thanks to all the Beta Testers who gave their opinions and feedback.

Man, all I have to say is, dang good job there. I originally downloaded the
Nexus Radio Beta program you had going, and compared to what you have now, to
then, it looks great. Very nicely done. Good Job!

How many sales have you gotten so far from this product?

Hello Mario,

Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately I never publicly discuss sales.
But I can say Nexus Radio is performing better than what we expected, and
that can be attributed to the low price, and the fact we have been doing
print advertising in various magazines. Actually our Nexus Radio
advertisements have been a bit controversial :)

Nice ad. I can't see why it would be controversial.

I can. Looks to me like he wants to attract only males (who irrationally think
they'll get the woman pictured), and have no women using his "radio".

Hello Kat,

As I have explained before in the past I am in the business to sell software,
this is not a hobby for me. Sex sells and men are my primary customer. Not
because of the advertisements, because women do not purchase software the
same way men do. Whether I use a woman or a puppy in an AD, men will still
purchase more copies of my product than women. The controversy that I
mentioned revolves around the fact we have the RIAA crossed out, which I
have noticed not many people know what the RIAA stands for.

I think you under-estimate the intelligence of his audience ...

What? I've got a date with her this Saturday night. (The model in the ad,
not Kat.) :)

Either Kat was right or CK is lying :P
Although I disagree with what Kat said about it. First the picture of that
woman will attract men's attention, so then they notice the radio part of it.

I suppose if they'd put a picture of Chuck Norris there it might've had the same
effect tho... ;)

10. Re: Nexus Radio Review

Now for my $.02...

I'm sure Nexus Radio is a fine product and this generalization in no way implies
that it's not. But when I see that kind of ad it immediately makes me think
"this company does not have the confidence in their own product to let the
product sell itself, they have to resort to this kind of advertising to sell the
product". This doesn't just apply to software, but to any type of product and
I've seen this trend repeated hundreds of times. I will not normally buy a
product from a company that engages in that kind of advertising. I also don't
like ad campaigns that have pictures of happy, smiling people that are "posed".
Have a Coke machine at your office? Does it have the picture of good looking,
well dressed people in a meeting where they're all smiling and happy because
they're driking a soda? That to me is disingenuous and implies "drink our soda
and you'll be happy too".

So, in a round-about way I agree with Kat. The "man" eye immediately is drawn
to the ad, it leaves an impression. But what changes in a man after viewing the
ad 10 times? 100 times? Where does it go from there?

Hi Jonas,

When companies release a new product, the main goal is to sell that product.
There are very few products that sell themselves, and when you are launching
a new product you have to use "pleasing" images to attract buyers. I am sure
there will be both men and women who will not find our ad tasteful, but
fortunately that will be a small percentage of people. The point of advertising
is to appeal to the majority. The same way I do not develop software for
operating systems lower than Win2000. There aren't enough Win98/Win ME
users left to justify the extra development time. My point is Nexus Radio
can be the best product of its type, but if we cannot grab the attention
of potential buyers, then we are defeating our purpose. Putting a software box
in a AD, and describing the features of the product will not grab the attention
of the average reader. Lets be realistic, software is not exciting to most
consumers.

I certainly appreciate your viewpoint. I was really making broad statements
about the state of advertising in general and the long-term effects that
advertising of this nature has on our society. Now I certainly don't think that
a married man, after seeing this picture once, would go out and seek to have an
affair...but what happens when that man goes home and thinks "my wife doesn't
look like that". Then that man sees other ads along the same lines. How many
times would it take before he would yield to temptation?

All in all, it seems like we're setting ourselves up to dissolve serious,
committed relationships. Maybe not this year, maybe not this decade.

I've seen your work and the software you produce certainly give us Euphorians a
good name. Having never produced something at that level, I'm sure the challenge
must be how to build preference for yor product with all the various competition
I'm sure you must have. I would think the greater challenge would be how to
advertise said product without using legs!

Hi Jonas,

I can only hope that society never reaches the point when men view sexy
photos of women in advertisements, and use that as motivation to
have affairs.

There is a show on PBS right now that addresses this!

Basically, it says for those people who believe advertising (by
companies, political groups, religions, etc), the ad does affect their
self esteem, desires, and level of happiness.
