1. "Send a Message to EUforum" window too small (Rob?)

Hi there,

I noticed recently the above mentioned window became smaller than
it used to be.

When i click on 'reply' or post a new message
the window that comes up is very small so before you can
scroll down to where you would start typing the first thing
you have to do is resize the window with the mouse to make
it wider.

Any chance this could be put back to the way it used to be,
or simply made a little wider?
Maybe 100 pixels more would do it.

Thanks...

Take care,
Al

No!

I like the interface of listfilter. I use webmail almost exclusively except for
work.

Al:

It must be your browser settings.
I see no difference than it's ever been using Mozilla.

I haven't changed anything to do with the Send Message window
in many months. Something in your browser may have changed.
You can click "Change Settings" to get more lines if you want.

Make sure you are on the front page of the listfilter; if you are viewing a
message then click on "All Messages". Then you should see at the top and bottom
"Previous Page" "Search EUforum" "Post a Message" <b>"Change Settings" </b>
"Home".

8. Re: "Send a Message to EUforum" window too small (Rob?)

Hello,

Thanks Jason, that helps a little, but that is not the real problem.
The problem is with the 'width' of the window that comes up,
not with the height. Apparently there is no way for the user to
adjust the height.
What happens is i get this rather narrow window with the edit
box inside, where the scroll bars of the inside box are hidden
by the width of the window because it's too narrow.
Another 100 pixels would fix this.
Remember it's not the box inside that's doing it...that's fine,
its the window itself that comes up while my other windows
come up just as wide as my last 'closed out' page in my browser.
This is the way most web pages work, except of course for those
that resize the window which is what Euforum is doing.

Some pages like to make the window as wide as the whole screen
but i am against this too.

Can this be fixed/updated please?

Thanks...

Take care,
Al

You mean, no way to adjust the *width*.

It looks fine for me with Internet Explorer and Firefox
on an 800x600 screen. The window is large enough to
show the full scroll bar for the edit box.

Back (ages ago) when I used to use Internet Explorer
I noticed it would sometimes get stuck on the idea
of popping up a smaller than desired window. This
had nothing to do with EUforum. It would do it on
just about any Web page, and there didn't seem to be
any reliable way to fix it. It seemed to simply be a bug in IE.

You've posted hundreds of messages and never complained
about this before. As you said earlier, this is a recent issue
that you've noticed on your machine. It doesn't seem to
affect other people. I haven't played with the window size
in many months.

The HTML that listforum sends to size the text area is ...

  <textarea wrap=soft wrap=soft rows="20" cols="77" name="message">

and apart from the duplicated 'wrap' attribute, there is not much wrong with it.
On my screen, I get a full 77 characters displayed in a line.

12345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567

I have my font set to 'Courier New 16' and the screen set to 1024x768 pixels.
The text area width only starts to become a problem at font size = 20.

I suggest that you use a better browser to see if it makes a difference.

Hi Al

Are you running any kind of popup blocking software, or a filtering proxy (like
privoxy)? This could be interfering with the Javascript responsible for the
popup?

14. Re: "Send a Message to EUforum" window too small (Rob?)

Hi again,

Yes i meant the width is not adjustable, but now that i take a better
look, not even the height is adjustable! It's not the number of
lines that is doing this, because that 'page' is ok.
What happens is this:

I go to another page somewhere on the web, resize page to say 900
pixels wide. Close out window. Now when i go to other pages on
the web, browser ALWAYS comes up 900 wide again unless i get a
site (rather rare) that wants to make the window full screen...
but lets assume this doesnt happen.
Now i go to Euforum, everything is fine. I read messages...
no problem.

Now after i read a message (such as this one) i click on
"Reply" and instead of a 900 pixel window coming up i get
this skinny window that is about 713 pixels wide, not 900.
The 'page' that is inside the window has some edit controls
and a "Quote Original Text" button.
So it's not strictly speaking "EUforum" but rather the "Reply"
window that is too narrow.

It doesnt make sense that other windows on other sites work
ok and the "Reply" window doesnt.

If it's still not clear what is happening, i'll post a screen
shot so you can see how the scroll bar of the Reply page is
hidden by the skinny window that contains it that comes up when
i click "Reply".

Take care,
Al

Umm, it's always worked that way. It allows you to differentiate the reply
window from the main window.

When you size a browser window and then close the browser, the browser writes
its new size in either the registry or in an ini file. However since EUforum uses
javascript it sets the reply window to a fixed size when it pops up. Like Derek
said a few posts ago.

Do you really have a problem with this behavior?

I think I have the same problem... I use both Mozilla Firefox and MS Explorer

I must have missed that part of Al's message. However, I'm not experiencing the
problem with Firefox or IE. Sorry I can't help any further.

Check your Javascript settings and make sure the advanced settings are set
properly.

Hi there,

Yeah, and it's strange that i just noticed it...but it seems
like i never a problem scrolling to where i would type my
reply until just recently, when i had to start scrolling for
some reason. I'll test again at some point under XP SP1 instead
of SP2.
Dont bother Rob with it though :)

Firefox: Tools -> Options -> Content -> JavaScript -> Advanced (There are some
various options here. Test them. I have Move or resize existing windows, raise or
lower windows, and disable or replace context menus checked; Hide the status bar
and Change status bar text unchecked.)

Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy (Make sure popups are
allowed for listfilter.com)

Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced (lots of settings
here...)

Enable/Disable Javascript in Internet Explorer:
http://www.spanweb.net/js-enable-disable.html

Hope that helps.

Hi again Jason,

I checked my settings and tried allowing all pop ups, but
that didnt help either.
Maybe there is something in the registry that got changed from
some dumb web site that didnt care what it did to my computer?
I guess stuff like this all the time...just the other day
one web site shut off my Task Manager's ability to 'open',
via the registry. Lucky i knew where to look to fix it :)
