1. Protocol needed
Hi
I like the category tags at the beginning of messages, but unless they are
handled consistently they will make it so that my email reader (Outlook
Express) won't be able to gather the postings into threads. In the long run
this will be a real hassle.
Here's what I mean - after sorting by subject I'm starting to get stuff like
this:
[GEN] foo
[GEN] Re: Foo --- one chunk of the thread
[GEN] Re: Foo
[GEN] Re: Foo
[LNX] .. ... .. --- other stuff
.
.
Re: foo -- another chunk of the thread
Re: foo
Re: foo
Re: foo
.
.
Re: [GEN] foo -- another chunk of the thread
Re: [GEN] foo
Re: [GEN] foo
Threads get sorted into several places and it gets so you can't follow them
chronologically anymore.
Who wants to set the standard?
Bye
Martin
2. Re: Protocol needed
Am I correct in thinking this might be fixed by moving the tags to the *end* of
the subject line? Seems like that would also eliminate the multiple tags ("[GEN]
re: [GEN] rest of subject").

3. Re: Protocol needed
No! I often don't see the end of the subject line if it's more than a few
words.
I like [GEN]Re:foo & bar.

4. Re: Protocol needed
No protocol is needed. Leave the list as it is, without [GEN]...

I've come to agree with =A9koda.
I never had any problem telling which threads I was interested in and whi=
ch
to ignore in the old system, so the new system isn't an improvement that
way. It is however a disaster as far as sorting the discussions into thre=
ads
is concerned, because the subject lines are so inconsistent. The threads
aren't so important with new material, but when we want to follow a previ=
ous
discussion they are essential. So in essence, the archive is being made
useless by the subject line inconsistency.
Personally, I don't think there's any way that a group like those of us o=
n
the list can maintain the consistency needed - So lets just drop the [GEN=
]
stuff.
Bye
