Hi, Thanks to people who sends explanations or suggestions. In particular : --Robert Craig for the analyse of the test. --Daniel Berstein for the bibliography. --Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen : > Calling a function, that's a huge slowdown.. so only have functions > for large pieces of code ... I noticed that srch=find(tstval, valid) is faster than srch=find(tstval,{3,5,7,11}) thus isn't better programming to declare constants, variables, sequences used in puts()? . --Bryan Watts said on 6 Aug 1997: > Most of the time, you will use this function to check user input and > such against values already built into the program. Yes, it's the case. So any milliseconds fastest isn't a vital question. . --Larry D. Poos said on 6 Aug 1997: > What I would tell you is, the bottom line for a hobbyist is to test a > couple of algorithms, as you have done, and use the one you find to be > consistently the fastest. I agree, the main object of my test was curiosity and a good knowledge of the "engine". Its very rare, as far as I am concerned, that I use a 500 000 loops in a routine. --Hope I haven't forgotten anybody. -- Jean.Hendrickx. j.hendrickx at infoboard.be
