Does anyone know what happened to Gary & VEL? His VEL website is not on-line any more and there are never any replys to e-mails I send him. Anyone? -Jeremy

Euphoria should NOT be dependant on third parties to construct an IDE. In my mind, it's that simple. jon

I agree, both in reference to third persons, and to third party software. Developing a Windows IDE is a huge job. If Gary has to work for a living as well as find time for Vel, that may be too much to ask of one person. Also,it seems better _not_ to have another layer of un-editable and un-repairable code between us and the already un-editable and un-repairable windows API. The usefulness of Euphoria's error reporting is compromised, and there's no way anyone can contribute add-ons, bug fixes or improvements. Maybe Rob could hire Dave to bring the Win32lib IDE to a point where the Eu/Win package on CD would be worth $99.95. Something comparable to Delphi, before they added all that buggy database connectivity, perhaps. Regards, Irv

There is no standard GUI for Euphoria, and as far as I can determine, Robert isn't interested in adding one. That means it's up to third parties to develop interfaces to GUIs, and IDEs for those interfaces. Irv Mullins wrote: > Developing a Windows IDE is a huge job. Although it's certainly a daunting task, Gary's done an excellent job. > Also,it seems better _not_ to have another layer > of un-editable and un-repairable code between us > and the already un-editable and un-repairable windows > API. If this is turning into a Win32Lib vs. VEL war, I want no part of it. > Maybe Rob could hire Dave to bring the Win32lib > IDE to a point where the Eu/Win package on CD > would be worth $99.95. This isn't going to happen. 1. Win32Lib is no more 'official' than VEL, or any other Win32 library. 2. Like Gary, I work full time. 3. Money isn't a motivation for me, and won't make me work faster. On the other hand, if people want to lend a hand with the Win32Lib IDE, that's fine with me. -- David Cuny

Not at all. I'm just stating what should be obvious. I can dig thru Euphoria code to find and modify whatever I want. Fix bugs, add features, etc., even if the coder is no longer around. If Gary wants to release the Delphi source, that would be just as good. I'm sure there are people here who could fix bugs and add features to it. Perhaps someone could even enable the internet connectivity everyone is talking about. I wonder if there's a way to use components from the VCL in Vel? Regards, Irv

I've read somewhere that there's Delphi is being ported Linux. Gary may have this portability thing licked, after all. -- David Cuny

They just released VisiBroker for Java and C++ (CORBA) to run on Linux. Chances are their C++ Builder will be here before Delphi, but who knows? Here's a CNN news article reporting on Borland's recent poll to judge interest in the Linux platform: Regards, Irv
