Yes, it is true that much of the 'portability' issue is old ground, and has been gone over many times before, but since it currently is such a hot topic, I too wish to maybe raise the temperature a bit more if I may. I have said this before recently, but I will say it again, and now put a bit of a twist on the question: I am being funded, among other things, to carry out a mandate which I pressed my backers for, and they agree for me to do. This is to develop a usable basis on several of the Game Consoles (Nintendo, Sega, Sony) so that they can be accessed as something higher than 'embedded Thin Client' machines, but better and more sane than Windows CE, i.e., a very abstract open-system OS which will straddle the various RISC processors of these units. I intend to do this with the help of several 'gamers', and I AM starting this in the second week of this month (Nov 99). This is a very serious project, hoping among other things, to help widen some of the cracks in the PC-only mentality, which unfortunately, is very evident even in the enlightened discussions of this, the EU forum. What I am asking now is, not can it be done, but how much will it cost? I am going to have to do this one way or the other. Discussion and feedback and flames welcome. Norm
