1. Windows API general overview

I have realised that I am attempting to learn how to code windows API by experiment, and while I have a grasp of each piece of the jigsaw, and indeed some grasp as to how it fits with its immediate neighbours, I feel I am completely missing the bigger picture. This is not about detail, but overview, which I am sorely missing. Are there any on-line resources giving some overall flavour, what must be done in what order sort of thing, a distillation of nuggets of wisdom; some broad outline? I may possibly be completely mad to imagine such a thing exists Regards, Pete
