1. CreateForm() and next_number()

I can't find any documentation on
CreateForm() and next_number(), though
I see example programs.
Anyone know?

Hi John,
these are documented in the docs that come with win32lib.

Go to the DOCS folder and open index.htm and follow the links.

Hello Derek,

It is good to see you posting here again. I hope you have decided to rejoin

No. John's email address wasn't working and so I was forced to use RDS. Sorry, I
won't make a habit of it.

Well, at least we know he lurks. I still wish he'll give up his latest
revisions to Win32Lib...

Yes I agree. He did say he was working on the new win32lib, but I have no
idea when it will be available for the general public. Derek do you mind giving
us some info on the status of win32lib?

Hi there,

Maybe Derek chooses to stay private with his library now rather than
disclose all his work to the public. After all, sharing your library
with everyone means they can program everything you can pretty much,
with as much ease. If you're competing for real dollars out there
that's not usually a good thing smile
Microsoft, for example, is extremely careful what they disclose
and what they dont. RDS has its reserves as well. With so much
competition out there it just makes sense sometimes.

There's also the appreciation end of it...after all the work you
put in to a large library if people dont express some sort of
appreciation at some point you tend to start to keep things to
yourself, and a lib like that is a LOT of work with little return.

Take care,
Al

And, good luck with your Euphoria programming!

8. Re: CreateForm() and next_number()

I prioritize things. My paying job is very demanding and the two main public
(non-paying) projects I support have been getting very little of my available
time. As the current win32lib is quite usable, there is no urgency to release a
large update. I'm willing to hear people convince me that I'm wrong about the
need for an update.

There is also a hardware problem that means I don't have access to my latest
updates for a few weeks.

I've been thinking that an update based on the current code base with the few
bugs fixes incorporated might be useful. Any thoughts?

BTW, the other main public project is a tool for D programers called 'Build' and
I've been mainly working a new release of that. I've also started a serious
effort to create an alternative Euphoria interpreter.

I wish to support Euphoria but I'm not willing to support RDS anymore. This is
not the forum to discuss that point of view so I will not continue it here.

Win32Lib has always been open source, and although Derek has been the main
person working on the lib for quite sometime, there have been countless
people who have contributed to the library, so you can't say it is "his"
library.

Win32Lib is not a "product", nor is it for sale, so there isn't really any
competetion.

People have donated micro economy dollars and time to Win32Lib, so if
that is not appreciation I do not know what is.

The truth is Derek doesn't get paid to work on Win32Lib, and he can walk
away from the project anytime he pleases. But I hope he continues working
on the lib and continue sharing it with the rest of the community.

What you say is quite true. I've raised this subject before simply because I
know how Derek feels yet I believe he's made many updates to the lib since the
latest public release.

I also have a demanding job so I can't take over control of the lib. However,
there might be folks that can make use of the Win32Lib SourceForge site
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32libex).

I'm just suggesting that we start with a release containing all of the latest
fixes before kicking off the next gen Win32Lib. Otherwise, we have somebody so
bitter towards RDS who's happy to sit on contributions that will be pointless
should we spawn from the old archive version.

This request is very old...

Ouch! I hope I'm not doing that ... maybe I am being too petulant ... whatever
... Ok, I'm now shamed into doing a v0.61 release ... I'll see what I can do but
it might take a week or two or three.

> This request is very old...

and so am I (51 next week) blink But just think of it as waiting for a release of
Euphoria.
