1. missing posts???

Is any/every one else not getting all posts from Topica?

I never got Derek's righteously po'd post, nor the beginning of "Sequence"
thread, and now I see a thread of "code (using Win32Lib) that doesn't seem
to work proper" but I don't have the beginning of the thread.

Arrgh!

I have a similar problem: I do get almost all the posts (lucky me! ;)
however
I often get them out of order and it can take days to actually recieve
the post
from when it was first sent.

Anyone willing to host (or find someone else who will) an unoffical
Euphoria
Mailing List? Hopefully the alternative list will have better
preformance
than Topica.

Actually, if we go this route, we may want several mailing lists: one
for discussing Win32Lib, one for low-level Win32 API programming, one
for Linux/FreeBSD low-level programing, one for bugs fixes/ideas for
enhancements in Euphoria, and one general list for everything else
(including helping newbies figure out which list to post to!).

Also, I'd personally like the following mailing lists despite the
fact that they are less relevant to Euphoria programming in general
applications: oen for preprocessors of Euphoria (development,
comparision,
general discussion, etc.), one for modified interpreters, and one for
discussion of multi-platform GUI and IDE.

I realize the odds of this happening are quite low, but its still
a very good idea, and it can't hurt to speak.

I noticed that when a post to EUforum is done with two o more address
in it e.g.:

EUforum at topica.com, rforno at tutopia.com

Maybe only latter will get the message. Topica refuses the post.

6. Re: missing posts???

Hello all, hello Ray,

I personally would *not* like to have several mailing lists instead of one.

I agree: it will be the same as now ... just from 3 different lists.
So, where will be the advantage? blink

But if we have e.g. 3 lists, we probably will have threefold technical
problems and threefold mails complaining about them, threefold ads from
the list hosting companies, additional questions from newcomers like
"Hi, what is the proper list to ask the following question ..." and such
things.

I'd prefer something else:
We could define several areas, such as "General", "Win32Lib", "Internet",
"Annoucments" etc., and then add the appropriate name to the subject of
our mail, maybe enclosed in [ ].

In our e-mail clients, we can create corresponding subfolders and let the
mail client put the mails automatically in the appropriate subfolder.

Just my 2 cents. Best regards,
   Juergen

It would be fairly straightforward to set up a mailing list server,
written in Euphoria, and running on RapidEuphoria.com.
I have all the technical knowledge needed to do it, and the
"hacker" in me wants to do it. However the business person
in me sees the following problems:

* a month to get a crude version set up,
with Web interface, e-mail delivery, digests etc.

* another month to polish it

* ongoing maintenance, trouble-shooting and tweaking, forever

* addr.com (my Web hosting company) might not be any more
reliable than Topica at pumping out e-mails to 380 people, 50 times per day
addr.com does crash sometimes, and the mail server has died at
   other times

* I might have to pay addr extra $ per month
because of the increased bandwidth I'd be using.

* Euphoria gets some exposure by being in the Topica index

* Topica might get better. Yesterday, some messages were taking hours
to get through, but today most messages are only taking a few minutes

I've recently tested Yahoo groups and MSN. Yahoo has more
ads than Topica, and they are big, "in-your-face" ads.
MSN is Microsoft - you need a passport to do anything.
Many people on this list hate Microsoft.

The e-mail delivery times on both were not very good either.

They both have a feature where the owner/moderator of
a list can choose to send "important" messages (announcements)
to everyone, including a class of people who sign up
just for the important messages. Maybe we should consider
something like that.

Nit picking: You need a *meteorite* to get rid of the obnoxious bastards.
