1. ESL (attn Robert Craig)

Hi Robert,

Have you got any comments to give the various views expressed for the Euphoria
Standard Library? It would help a lot if you joined in discussions a bit and
made some of your views known.

Just trying to help encourage the use of the language.

Cheers,
Dave

I'm 100% in favor of it, and I wish you all well with it.
If you want, I can eventually add it to the official install package,
as long as your license allows me to do that.

I don't want to become an active participant in ESL.
I think there are lots of experienced Euphoria programmers
on EUforum who can do a good job on it. I'd rather work
on some other things, like cooperative multitasking.

I don't think it should be added in the install package, because new
releases/updates of ESL will occur much more frequently than new releases of
Euphoria? However, providing a download link to it on SourceForge, or w/e in the
docs would be great. I'm very excited about this team effort, the guidelines and
proposed licensing is very desirable.

Vincent

If there is anything (after the licensing debate has run its course)
which might trouble you in that respect, too complicated, too
specialised, too hard to document, too much effort to support, etc,
I trust you will air your concerns.

Let's reconsider that better when ESL has released a few versions,
possibly got stable, by the time 2.6/3.0 is nearing.

Well once ESL has some kind of stable foundation (0.5 to 1.0) I would
not expect it to be updated all that often.

Most updates would deal with bugs or added features. If it is done
right to begin with then added features would be a small part. As would
bugs.

But our team will do what is necessary to make it a useful tool for all
Euphoria programmers.

I agree. It should be like win32lib. There's a link to that at the point of
downloading the Euphoria installer. ie "You might want to also download these
[win32lib], [ESL]"

Yea, that too... something like this in red text:

"Once you've installed Euphoria, you should download *ESL* (Euphoria Standard
Library) developed by Euphoria users. It's specification greatly builds upon the
included standard library, and makes a great addition."
