I have finally installed win 98 upgraded over 3.1. It seems to work
pretty well on a pentium. However, I get an error message on startup:
necessary file tsad.dll not found.
I click on OK and notice no bad results. Despite considerable
internet searching, I haven't been able to find any info on it. Can anyone
send tsad.dll to me or tell me where to get tsad.dll and what I need it for?
Sorry for the non-euphoria question but I really am trying to get
ready for .exw.
Thanks, Art

Hmm, I just installed win98 (clean, no "upgrade") a week ago. No tsad.dll on my
system. There was a tsd32.dll however.
Perhaps this is something from your first setup?

3. tsad.dll
I asked about tsad.dll...several of you responded helpfully...and
set me on a trail of searching which uncovered some interesting info. Check
out the URL below and it's 2 links for more details.
I searched my win 98 partition for tsad.* and found nothing. Then I
searched for file content with the word tsad. 6 or 8 files were named. None
were sys or ini but one of them was tsadbot.exe. When I bravely tried to run
it, it gave me the same error message I was getting during boot... "Can't
find necessary file tsad.dll."
What I discovered:
There is a company, Conducant, which markets an add-on called
tsadbot (prog 1) which permits another prog such as pkunzip (prog 2) to
automatically install tsadbot.exe (prog 1). Prog 2 then offers advertising
automatically as it goes about its normal task.
In my case, I have no idea which prog added the tsadbot. It is in
c:\program files\TimeSink\AdGateway\tsadbot.exe
Clicking on properties refers to Condusant and the ver #. TimeSink
seems to be part of the deal and is othertwise empty. PQUNZIP for Windows
(which I don't believe I have) apparently adds tsadbot at least
sometimes...per the URL below. I assume other "customers" programs do likewise.
I renamed AdGateway and tsadbot.exe, rebooted, and got no error
message. I see, so far, no ill effects. You Win98 Gurus can advise me re any
further action I should take.
I sent a message to Condusant per its web site but got an
Undeliverable message report.
A search for tsadbot via AltaaVista gave the following URL where I
got some of the info.
http://www.datafellows.fi/v-descs/tsadbot.htm
It speaks of tsadbot as not a virus but a prog installed without the
users cooperation.
Thanks for the help. Bye, Art
