Be patient (two years already?).  Open Watcom isn't  complete yet.  It 
will probably be released with mingw headers for the windows files..

Can't remember much about the problems. I did end up with a build.bat
that was much different that the distributed one. Heres what I use
(complete with warts).

Here is a DOS IDE for Watcom.
Be sure to use the whole URL because Topica wraps the long lines.
