I only browse the list every couple of days or so; I don't want to have my email clogged by a couple of hundred messages (there seem to be 50 or more messages posted per day) every time I check it (not very often, obviously), so I use the web option rather than the email posting. If I'm looking for something specific, I use the search engine Rob maintains on RapidEuphoria (seems to find a lot more). Other than that, I don't use topica for EU-searching. Thx, Phil Long Kat wrote: > On 19 Apr 2002, at 23:16, Robert Craig wrote: > > > > > Topica is going down tomorrow to install > > some new features. > > I'd be happy if the plain ole basic features worked, like deliver the > #%^&$^ > email to us. > > Kat > >

in short, topica sucks. i wonder if it will ever reach the quality of the good old listserv. AFAIK, _IT_ always delivered mail on time. phil long wrote: > I only browse the list every couple of days or so; I don't want to have > my email clogged by a couple of hundred messages (there seem to be 50 or > > more messages posted per day) every time I check it (not very often, > obviously), so I use the web option rather than the email posting. My guess is they are moving to a bigger (or smaller) place but keeping their old hardware. I also think this is bogus but for different reasons. A move of equipment is perfect Murphy's Law material and 18-24 hours seems very optimistic. > -----Original Message----- > From: Kat [mailto:gertie at PELL.NET] > Sent: Tuesday, 25 June 2002 15:12 > To: EUforum > Subject: Re: Topica going down > > > > On 24 Jun 2002, at 23:02, Robert Craig wrote: > > > > > Topica writes: > > > The Topica site will be down on Tuesday, June 25th, > > > beginning at 9:00 AM Pacific Time (4:00 PM GMT) for > > > approximately 18 to 24 hours. I know, as i said "As often as they go down for "upgrades"," meaning in a month, they will go down for an upgrade again, and the month after that, etc.. So get it over with already for this month, and pre-install the new hardware, make it run, and then change the dns entry so the email goes to the new location. simply ... we get what we pay for. AFAIK Topica is as good (or bad) as any other free mail list host. Ray Smith. There are good, reliable and free mailing list servers. One that I make use works very fine without a single interruption for several years (AFAIC). We already talked on that. Topica is Rob's choice and he already stated why he uses it. As alternatives we have EuChat (sorcery) and Euphoria at Coollist. Never heard of anyone on Eu Newsgroup. So it's desirable that we try to get along. As an example, I don't use digest mode. It's troublesome. Instead, I get my mail sorted by thread which it's quite fine. The only problem is when David Cuny posts: his computer's clock is so wrong (am by pm?) that his answers usually come long *before* the question... :) Cheers! --Euler
