Yes. Plus a few bytes for each element as overhead (think pointers)

It would *really help* if you would describe what kind of 
data you are working with, and what you want to do with it.
It's hard to visualize an example where the 72megs couldn't be 
be accessed in a more reasonable way than loading the whole 
thing into memory.

What about trying to do compression on EG
DVD-movies, WAV-files of Matthaeus-Passion
etc, Irv.
72Mb doesn't suffice for the intro of latter issue.
It's what I'm doing as my main project right now.
And I don't mean MP3 etc., but real LOSSLESS
comprimation
