Hi, I am looking into learning Euphoria, but i was wondering...to what=20
extent can you write games with euphoria? How well does it work with=20
graphics...i mean could i do a game like grand theft auto, or =
civilization?=20

Hi! Welcome :)
Euphoria could certainly handle games like that. Of course your
probably not going to be writing the next Quake 3 in Euphoria (well,
probably not;) but you should be able to do quite a lot.
Something like Civilization could probably be done using Euphoria's built in DOS
graphics stuff. There are quite a few graphics library's for DOS,
Window and Linux, you'll probably want to use one of those...
Of course it's better to start small, learn the language, but I guess
you already knew that ;)

Hello, Euphoria list!
I am brand new to Euphoria looking to get started
developing Windows applications/games in this great
language. I would like to know if any of you have
recommendations for programs/utilities to download to
make my programming easier.
So far I've tagged the following for download:
Win32Lib (v 55.1)
Judith Evan's Enhanced IDE
I saw a few other IDEs and Wrappers that might be good
to download, but I thought I would ask the opinion of
the list for these, as well as for graphics (morfit?)
and sound programs and anything additional you think I
might benefit from.

I'm using UltraEdit-32. Mighty fine editor.
I highly recommend ExoticaX for developing DirectX apps, although Chris
seems to have dropped off the face. :)

Also, Michael Packard, at http://www.berighteous.com/euphoria, has a great
tutorial for game programming.

Hi Chris,
The version of Morfit for Eu on my site is quite a bit
behind now. Morfit is now up to Version 5.6
Although the API hasn't changed much, versions after
4 are commercial. There is a cheap non-commercial license (still $49 ?)
which gives you access to the whole Morfit suite. It includes all the
official SDK's (VC++, VB, Delphi, BCB....) and
tools. It also includes the ability to 3D enable your web page and
makes available all the API functions via Java.
Another feature of 5+ is a "speed" utility which can have a
dramatic effect on frame rates.
V5+ works great with Eu but I have not finished getting anything
together due to the licensing code. Would anyone like to see V5+
for Eu? If so, I will contact Morfit. Keep in mind though that it is
cheap but not free. Will do the "Quake" level as a demo if there
is anyone who wants it.
Mention was also made a short time ago regarding Genesis/Jet
for Eu. I would love to know how that project is coming along.
Anyone else working on 3D stuff?

conclusion that the subject matter is over my head. While I do not have any
questions about Euphoria right this red hot minute, I am wondering if there
is a forum for Euphoria that is less advanced and might be more appropriate
for the kind of questions that a newbie would ask.

This mailing list serves as a forum for both the beginner and the advanced
user. Don't let the current topics discourage you from using this forum.
There are many friendly people here who will answer any questions you may
have. Also, the web interface to the list server provides an easy way to
search for subject matter that might answer your questions. I think you
will find Euphoria to be easy to learn and soon you will be able to follow
most discussions.

The subject matter is over all our heads - we're just treading water.
Ask on this list, and you'll get several different ways to do something, and
a quick response, or e-mail me privately if you prefer. I can't promise to
reply quickly, however.

Hello George,
I'm not newbie on EU4, but I'm not to advance like almost on the
list, or the people who talks in it. If you or other want to ask
newbie questions to me, I'm glad to help and answer the
questions, I was a newbie once, and I want that all newbies can
progress on this excellent lenguage.
So, if somebody wants to ask me about anything except assembler
'cause I don't know anything about it.

If the guys and girls around here will put up with the likes of me
coming in and questioning things that they have already
questioned a dozen times without flaming me straight into
the ground, any question you ask should be happily and
quickly and fully answered. Most of them will even write you
a sample program for whatever you are asking and then
another if you don't understand that one. Their is the
occasional thorn amongst the roses, but that is what gives
zest to life..no?
