1. Contrib CD

I've started the long and arduous process of downloading, testing and
commenting on each of the files in the Recent User Contributions and
Archives.

I've also begun work on a program that allows you to search for
different pieces of software on the CD, based on keywords. For example,
a search for 'DirectX' would return Exotica 1.3, while a search for
'games' would return every game made for Euphoria, that's on the CD =)

This program'll also give you the option to copy programs to your hard
drive, either by selecting different programs, or selecting a while
subsection (ie: win32 libraries).

Anyways, the CD will be made avaliable either as a single purchase
($10), a quarterly subscription ($30 a year) or a monthly subscription
($100 a year).

The prices are subject to change.

Don't expect a nice, pressed CD with glossy insets or anything. For a
while at least, you're getting a CD-R with my very own handwriting on
the label =)

Regards,
Greg

Sounds reasonable to me. If I get a copy here I can distribute a
few for this area. I have my own. CD-RW

Sounds good. Sign me up for the Quarterly (I don't think there are, at
present,
enough additions every month to justify a new cd - maybe later)

This sounds a good idea for me, but...

just asking that how will this be done legally the right way? Correct if =
I'm wrong, but haven't some authors put a disclaimer in their apps that =
denies making any money with them unless provided by the author?
If so, I'm sure that every author is happy to provide you permission.=20

Anywayz, I think that the cost is fair and you're starting a great major =
project! Good luck :)

5. Re: Contrib CD

I can answer that one.
$10 a CD isn't a profit. No one will have made any profit at all.
except the end user of the apps. $10 a CD when burning them with
a Standard CD-R won't make any money at all. Only way to make
money is to Mass produce them. At that point the price can drop
along with the cost to prevent profit.

When I say Mass produce. that means. You create a CD. Take it
to a CD company that mass produces and have a 100 or so made.
The cost is very low because they don't BURN the CD's. They
stamp them like LP records.

I've taken your name down, I'll contact you again once the CD is ready.

I agree with you about the monthly cd. I don't expect many people to go for
that one. =)

Part of my job is to go through each of the contributions, and look for those
disclaimers. Then, I've got to email the authors, and ask permission.

I'm really not making very much money on this at all. When you add the cost of
the CD, shipping, and the time I spend online downloading that stuff, I actually
stand to maybe lose some money =)

Anyways, thanks for the concern!

8. Re: Contrib CD

Exactly. That is maybe the way I'd want to go in the future, but for now, mass
production isn't quite worth it.

I mean, I can see the look the people at the CD production place would give me
when I bring in a CD-R, and ask for two or three copies to be made =)

Thanks,
Greg Phillips
