You also seem to have posted your follow up within about an hour of the
original. It's also not clear (to me, at least) what the advantage of your
web site would be to the Eu community. What will we be able to do there
that we can't do currently? That said, I'm not sure I'd be able to help too
much (in the web development, that is)--I'm already jumping between three or
four Euphoria projects as it is.

2. RE: phpnuke user needed for eucommunity site

Hi all!
When seeing this thread, I remembered a web site was set up maybe 6
months ago precisely for this purpose. Its name is www.techport80.com,
still online, and it is hosting an Eu code bank.
I didn't notice any change since the last time I visited it, long ago,
and didn't look at the code bank. Is the project site to
follow/duplicate this one?

3. RE: phpnuke user needed for eucommunity site

Hi jordah,

Firstly,
As nice as the site looks ... what benefits does it have over the
current mailing list/recent user contributions and the IRC chat room?

IMO the current tools used are so strong there is no need for
alternatives.

Secondly,
people are on this mailing list because they want to use
Euphoria, not other programming languages. I think if you said you
wanted to develop it in Euphoria (to promote the use of Euphoria) you
"might" end up with better long term support from the community.

Thirdly,
Most people have limited time working on their own projects.
You'll also find most projects are started by one person and developed
quite a bit before other people help. (Not just Euphoria ALL projects).
If you put the work in for the first few months and prove to people it
has benefits over the current tools you might be able to get a few
people to help. If you can't prove any benefits I doubt if any
people will be in a hurry to help you.

Fourthly,
Maybe it would have been better to ask the community for "would it be
a benefit if we did ..." before jumping in and doing it, and finding
out few people are interested.

PHP is cool (don't know anything about PHPNuke) and any experience
you obtain by playing with it will be good for you. Maybe after a few
months of working with it you'll find you have a small following :)

All the best,

Who said it was going to be an alternative? ok, lets stick to the little we
have.... i mean, how many sites does C have,PHP,......its about time you took a
survey to check out how other languages are doing and how they do it? I am not
going to force you to join....or shove it down your throats. Do as you
 feel.......

What are u on about? I used 'phpnuke coders' for only maintaining the site, the
user submissions will be in euphoria.

I am not about to work my ***** off to impress the general 'royal' euphoria
coders community. i mean,.....i spend hard weeks configuring the
website...blah...blah...then it is up to the euphoria community to judge
wether/not they should visit it. I think i better close this thread and say DON'T
COME TO MY SITE...forget it. stick to ur one site and mailing list.

Peoples interest don't concern me anymore.....and i didn't post asking for
"pple's interest".

I know what sites are around for other languages. Euphoria is in a
different class to C and PHP. Euphoria has a small base of users who
communicate almost exclusively using this email list and spread source
code almost exclusively using the RDS web site. C has probably
millions of users (PHP probably 10's or 100's of thousdands of users)
all doing many things on many platforms all with different experience
levels. Euphoria probably has a few hundred active users at most.
My point being starting another forum or source code sharing site
doesn't give any more benefits to the Euphoria community.

As an example of something I think would be a benefit to Euphoria
is an expanded archive. More categories, bigger reviews with more
detailed info and ratings.
Something like the Vaults of Parnassus for Python.
http://www.vex.net/parnassus/

I didn't imply that you would force people to join, I didn't imply
that your shoving anything down anyone's throat. And I will obviosly
do as I please.

ok, I should have said
"people are on this mailing list because they want to use Euphoria,
not 'A WEB PORTAL WRITTEN IN PHP'".
I have no interest in looking up what PHPHUKE is ... I assumed it was
a web portal written in PHP. If you where developing a EuphoriaNUKE
I think you could expect more reaction.

why not ask on the phpnuke mailing list?

So your saying you wan't other people to work their butts off to make
the site successful??? And why would anyone do that when a current
method of comunication is available?

I beleive you posted asking for peoples help? I beleive you need to
generate some interest before you will get people to help.

I'm sorry to say Jordah your attitude sounds rather immature and
selfish.
I didn't say you should'nt do it ... I said if you want it to be
successful "your" the one who will have to do all the hard work
and don't expect people to flock over there unless there are some
benefits not currently found using the current methods.
