I just got a XPERT 98 w/ RAGE PRO chipset and my system locks up after I install my video drivers. My motherboard is a Tyan Trinity 400 S1854. I've tried the new board drivers (VIA 4in1 v4.24), new video drivers (May 99), and they have the same results as the ones that came with the hardware. I've already written to ATI but I was wondering if anybody here has had the same problem. I can't move the mouse and CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't work. I have my AGP DRIVING in my BIOS set to CC, changed from the EC it was set to (problems either way). This is a 2x AGP card. My Tyan has the VIA ApolloPro133 chipset. Sorry for being offtopic, and any help is appreciated. Mike Hurley PS. I've looked at different forums on ATI stuff (windrivers.com) and other ones, but if you can suggest one, please do. ===== It compiled. The first screen came up. Ship it. --Bill Gates __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com/

-- PS Mike: I forgot to tell you to boot up in SAFE MODE to see if you lock-up. If you don't lock-up then it is NOT a bad video-card or motherboard problem but probably a conflict or driver problem. Bernie

Have you tried a different AGP video card ( non-ati ) in your system ? Have you look on TYAN WEB site to see if there is a bios upgrade for your motherboard ? Be very careful if you decide to upgrade because you can wipe out your bios. Also see if there are any notes about using Tyan and the ATI video. Sometimes a CD for the MOTHERBOARD comes with your system, check to see if there is any information on it. In your BIOS try changing PCI/VGA Palette Snoop to the opposite setting. Also be absolutly sure that you don't have a Interrupt conflict some video cards have jumpers when set will cause the card to use a interrupt. I remember one ATI video card that used the same interrupt as one of the COM ports. To be sure it is not a interrupt causing the problem, remove the soundcard, modem, and any unnecessary cards. Go in the bios and disable COM2 and LPT1. Then boot up into windows and see if the system locks up if not try adding one thing at a time to see which is causing a conflict. Bernie

if it is not locking up until in Windows, might try setting graphics hardware acceleration to none (via safe mode.) byE Mike Swayze mswayze at truswood.com kswayze at bellsouth.net <8-{b> ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bernie" <xotron at PCOM.NET> To: <EUPHORIA at LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU> Sent: Wednesday, September 20, 2000 10:05 AM Subject: Re: offtopic: ATI XPERT 98 and Win98 > -- > PS > Mike: > I forgot to tell you to boot up in SAFE MODE to see if you > lock-up.
