I like it too. Thanks Rob. I think this helps to disprove
the idea that Rob never does what we ask. :)
Jiri, I understand your concerns but most color-blind
individuals are red-green color-blind. That means that
they MIGHT have trouble distinguishing between Dos
and Linux. It DOESN'T mean that both red and green
look grey its just that red and green are can be confused.
In which case changing some of the pink bars to Gray should
actually HELP people with color rg-blindness. If this isn't
the case with you then know that you don't necesarily
represent the full 10% of the male population that is
color-blind. I don't mean to sound mean or discriminatory

You missed my point again. I am not surprised, after all you are the
one who needs 500+ characters just to sign a note...
I do not claim to represent anybody. The simple fact is vast majority
of archived items does not have any other platform indication. It's
inconsiderate to rely just on color, and yes, stupid, to persist with
it, when you know a significant proportion of users has trouble with
it, no matter in which part of the spectrum their defect is. jiri

I must concur with Jiri here, the "DOS" and "Generic" colors are almost
indistinguishable to my eyes.

LOL!
Actually, this gives me an idea for what might not be a bad alternative
solution -- have separate, additional pages for each platform. The DOS page
would show only DOS and generic contributions, the Linux page would show
only Linux and generic contributions, that kind of thing. This way, people
can browse code specifically for a particular platform -- and, as Jiri notes
above, can also more easily avoid platforms not to their liking.

I am colorblind, in fact, so much that I can't do my artwork w/o labelled
paint's and pencils!! I would have an ugly mess...another example is that I
can't distinguish between a RED or a GREEN traffic light at a distance..
almost didn't get my licencse cause of it... Now if THAT's not colorblind I
don't know what is...
My point is I have NO problems discerning the color coding.. I like the
color coding... it makes it easier to visually filter what you want to check
out...I think you are a slim minority Jiri.. not that your piont isn't
valid..
just unjust..
.... it IS a bit difficult picking out the linux files from the Dos ones..

I would suggest modifying the colors to the primaries... RED for DOS, BLUE
for WIN, and YELLOW for linux, and GREY for the GEN..
I think less ppl would have problems with the colors this way.. as you cant'
get any more distinct than those colors. Or if you could find colors that
clash with each other, this might even be better..
BTW Rob:
thanks for adding the letter coding, works great with the search
engine...BUT!!!...is there a way to have the engine sort the listed files by
date? don't wanna DL stuff that is already released in a later version or
even outdated by now. if ya know what i mean...
...and how bout catagorizing the files by application for the engine as
well?..this is a lot to ask... but many times I've looked for something
specific and had a hell of a time trying to find it 'cause the files are
only sorted by name and platform. I think others would agree.. maybe I'm
missing something though....

I don't know much about color blindness...but I was
wondering:
I know there are some kinds that affect only certain
colors, and granted, no matter what colors they are,
it will cause problems. But can't you associate what
others say is for example, red, with what you see it
as, whether that be a shade of gray or purple or
whatever? I suppose that could cause problems when
you try to see those shades of those colors AS those
colors.
I'm sorry if I sound incredibly stuid in this, but I
feel that some are getting a little hostile about it
all.
Maybe Rob could put after the title of the item (DOS)
or (LINUX) or (WIN32).
