Hi Talvitie, Stab Master beat me to this question and answered it correctly. I've also have an example at my website in the Exotica section which shows how to write to the directx surface. It's not as fast as Stab Master's bumpmap program because of the use of assembly, but it may be of help in understanding how to do it. If you don't understand it, please ask away.
