I ran Euphoria on Dragon Linux, a Slackware Linux that runs from stand-alone normal DOS, even the DOS that comes with Windows 95/98 (but not ME, 2000, NT, XP, because they cannot switch to stand-alone DOS). I use it because it doesn't need a partitioned hard disk; it has everything within a binary normal file under Windows/DOS. I didn't try many programs, but all of them run without problems. ----- Original Message ----- From: C. K. Hi CK, I wasn't trying to confure you by mentioning the BSD unix's. >From what I have read over the last week or two I beleive your first solution (Mandrake) is the best option. It's based on RedHat (so can use all the easy to install RPM's) and has one of (if not the) best installation systems around. So get a copy of Mandrake and be happy :) Regards, Ray C. K. > I wasn't trying to confuse you by mentioning the BSD unix's. You didn't! I was jus' playin' around, although BSD does sound like a new alternative. It didn't confuse me, though. :) > From what I have read over the last week or two I beleive your first > solution (Mandrake) is the best option. > > It's based on RedHat (so can use all the easy to install RPM's) and > has one of (if not the) best installation systems around. I'm considering Mandrake or LibraNet. Feeling like a purist, I'm leaning toward the Debian-based distro... and with over 8000 packages, zowie! How can I possibly go wrong?! My only problem is finding compatible hardware tomorrow when I go shopping! :) -ck

If you want it, let me know. ===== Best Regards, Guillermo Bonvehi AKA: Knixeur - Caballero Rojo

Thanks, Guillermo. I knew that. I actually had ME installed and used this technique I found in the Web. But at the end I returned to W 98 First Edition, because some DOS programs running in a DOS window under ME hanged the machine. One of them was PKZIP (new version under DOS). Another was a small program I compiled with Borland Turbo C++ version 3, that gave me a headache to debug, and after all the problem was with ME. And there were some more programs with the same problem. I don't know if some other guy has had the same trouble with ME. Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: <pampeano at rocketmail.com> Subject: RE: EU Non-MS Dev Box > > --- rforno at tutopia.com wrote: > > > > I ran Euphoria on Dragon Linux, a Slackware Linux that runs from > > stand-alone > > normal DOS, even the DOS that comes with Windows 95/98 (but not ME, > > 2000, > > NT, XP, because they cannot switch to stand-alone DOS).
