1. disk speed
Has anyone tested to see how fast they can read a harddisk on winXX, using
Eu? Or any other windoze version? I just had to clean 40,000 files (166megs)
off another disk, and zip them, making access times even slower. It's a 2Gig
partition, and Tiggr is filling it every 6 months, and has been for over 2 years
now. So the question becomes, when will i hit the wall of too much data, that
Eu takes all day to search the 1/2 million files? Any suggestions, besides a
massive pre-index of "normal" search parms? This problem has dogged me
for years, and the only good idea i had for it 8 years ago was one 528meg
harddrive per motherbd, in a programmable file server rack. Given that cpu
and ide buss speeds are up, hd access times are down, and i can't get new
528meg hds anymore, what's a archiver supposed to do?
I am supposed to be adding another 1,000 files, about 8Kbytes size each,
asap.

Is this something that an EDS database could handle for you?

Sounds like something that should be in a database!

No. There's 10gigs of raw data, before it's crosslinked. I don't think i wanna
put 10gigs of sdram into the puter for EDS to load it into.

Well, yeas, that was the point of the question. How to access that much
data quickly. Indexing it all only lets the puter know what it knows, it does
not let it know what it doesn't know. Knowing what it knows is an infinitely
small percentage of what it doesn't know, so the problem is still rather
massive. Given my finances, the data must stay on cost-effective harddrives,
not RAM.
