1. Is This Linux?

If so, I CAN BUY 3 or 4 of 'em at that price! (Okay, maybe just 1 or 2 to

Yes, but minus keybd and monitor, if i remember right. It's a flavor of
Madrake. One version is sold int he stores. Four versions of the nix box are
sold at walmart.com, these prices have been this low for months. I wish i had
bandwidth, i might need a server farm.

4. Re: Is This Linux?

minus modem and no floppy either. If you can afford
two of those you'd be better off springing for the
$398 version:

Intel Celeron 1.3 GHz processor
128 MB memory
40 GB hard drive
CD-ROM drive
56k modem
Integrated 10/100 LAN
Lycoris Desktop/LX operating system (Linux-based)

Also note that the $199 800Mhz system have a VIA cpu..
It think I read that the FPU on that ran at about half
the speed of comparable AMD/INTEL cpus.

I think Lycoris and Lindows OS are based on Debian
LINUX.

Ok, months ago, Walmart said it was mandrake on all their linux puters.

Initially, they offered Lindows on a cheap machine. More recently, they a=

Mandrake. Most of the reviewers seemed to agree that the boxen were a lit=

Personally, I use Mandrake. It's fairly painless for idiots like me. If y=

David, if you think you're an idiot, what are we? Amoebas??? ;)

There's nothing so humbling as experiencing a new operating system. You d=

Linux is to the point where you can pretty much click and install... But =

Thank goodness for mc.

How to i read the POST vars from Apache on a remote FreeBSD box?

The MicroEconomy submission form uses the POST method:
http://www.rapideuphoria.com/ecoform.htm

The corresponding CGI program (running on FreeBSD) is here:
http://www.rapideuphoria.com/economy.txt

POST is just a different way to transmit the query string.
The query string comes via standard input (file 0),
instead of via an environment string.
POST avoids creating a long, visible URL containing all the
form info. See procedure read_input()...

-- determine the query string
env = upper(getenv("REQUEST_METHOD"))
if equal(env, "POST") then
    -- "post" method
    nbytes = getenv("CONTENT_LENGTH")
    if atom(nbytes) then
        HTMLError("read_input - no CONTENT_LENGTH")
    end if
    nbytes = value(nbytes)
    if nbytes[1] = GET_SUCCESS then
        nbytes = nbytes[2]
    else
        HTMLError("read_input - bad CONTENT_LENGTH")
    end if
    query = get_bytes(0, nbytes)
else
     -- "get" method
    query = getenv("QUERY_STRING")
    if atom(query) then
        HTMLError("read_input - no QUERY_STRING")
    end if
end if

As far as I know, you can't use POST in that way.
It seems to me that if you want to send back a page to the
user containing customized links with long encoded strings,
you would have to use the GET method, so you could
make the string part of the URL that he clicks, e.g.
http://www.lester.com/cgi-bin/myprog.exu?userid=AX45RT0087654

When faced with this tracking problem, I thought briefly
about encoded strings and such, then I opted for cookies.
It seems easier.

There's probably a lot of discussion about this
issue on the Web somewhere. I don't see that much
privacy difference between encoded strings and
cookies that expire when the browser is closed.
I wonder what percentage of users block all cookies,
even the temporary session-limited ones? I don't think Internet
Explorer blocks temporary cookies as a default.

Midnight Commander. It's a clone of the Norton Commander program that run=
s=20
under Linux and DOS. You can do most of the things you need to do from mc=
 -=20
it even included an editor with syntax coloring.
