My assumption is that most American English speakers pronounce them no
differently... I certainly don't make an effort! smile

How do you pronounce them differently? "I" as in "India" and "E" as in
"elephant?" That's gettin' picky!

Actually, now that I sit here and hear the difference if pronounced
properly, it does make a slight different, and probably would be clear to
someone who is aware of the homonyms and paying attention to the
pronunciation.

The difference between "compli" and "comple" is clear to me, as I speak them
one after another...
