Why don't you just have just a green background. Then you could use
Roy Sheperd's sprite maker to make some sprites. You would make a sprite for
a guard, tackle, end, etc( you only need one even if you use it in more
than one place ) . Then you would have a table of the fifteen starting
positions. When a user selects his play starting position, you look
in the table and from the table you know where to place the different
sprites. This will take less bitmap space and overhead. This also will
allow you in the future to think about moving the sprites.
