I totally agree with kat This is most unprofessional list I
have ever seen. The only reason they are shutting down
is to CHANGE their JUNK ADS because ITS THE END OF THE MONTH.
They could care less about the users, They are just targets for
   their junk ADS.
There is no way to complain to them because their e-mail
is a auto-responder, No one to complain to.
   Rob,
Isn't there any other list that you can advertize on that
at least CARES about the users and has A BACKUP SYSTEM
or ALTERNATE SYSTEM while their doing maintainence.
Maybe Chris knows one he suggested this one.

I had suggested Robert host it on the RDS puters, on a listserv written
entirely in Eu. I still say it would be a good demo of the language. So would
a corresponding httpd .asp interface written in Eu. This would require a
constant web connection at RDS, preferably *dsl or some other big pipe, and
a true static ip#. A co-lo *nix box right at the isp, on their lan, would
suffice.

4. RE: List will go down in 8 hours

Hi,

You can't complain too much as topica are providing a free service.
(I use the word "service" losely!)

If you want more "up time" and less adds then someone will need to
host their own mail list as Kat says. Anyone that has a
permanant net connection and Linux I would suggest it wouldn't be
difficult to do.

btw, the adds on topica are completely over done. Every email is
annoying as you need to scroll half way before you can start
reading!! very very bad!

Just for email, you don't need a 100% reliable connection, just one that can
stay on long enough to retrieve email in a timely manner, like every 15
minutes or so..

You think it might annoy them any if we posted code on how to eliminate
their ads from our email?

i have to agree on that. not to put any strain on robert, but the old
listserv was FAR superior to this. now then, who was the fool who
suggested topica in the first place? j/k :)
