Connection refused, it rather tersely told me.

Should I try later, or is there more to that URL somewhere?

7. Re: Virus Alert!

Its a good thing I quarantine all of my e-mail now.

this is good advice to those that are new to this list,
we seem to have several people that like to play games
with e-mail like un-subscribing people from EuForum
and signing people up for several thousand listserves
etc..etc.

I would ask that you not add me to your contact list again
because like I said, that was the fourth(4th) virus
I have got from you. It makes me wonder what kind
of underground activety you might be up to.

I sent the file to McAfee and told them who I got it from
so they can hack and track it.

EuForum?

Problem is, windoze boxes, combined with unknowledgable or lazy users,
are easy exploits for viruses and trojans. Since they don't by default show
the file extensions, and allow active scripting in email and web browsers,
anything you download or open by those methods can allow a trojan in.
Imagine you have active scripting enabled, "to make your browsing
experience more enjoyable", and some innocent-looking webpage has an
html scr= to dl some .txt file to MSWrite or MSWord, and as a .txt it sails
thru your virus scan,, then some other virus-free java applet changes a few
bytes here and there in it,, and it's new, so your virus scanner doesn't
recognise it,, presto, you are trojaned/infected,, and your puter is doing
things in hidden processes, like emailing Ferdinand.

9. Re: Virus Alert!

Kat,

You queried euman about "EuForum", and mentioned problems one could
encounter with active scripting enabled on a Win box:

"EuForum" (ok, technically "EUforum") is the actual name of this email list
(EUforum at topica.com), for email purposes.

And how does one disable active scripting?

It's set in the security options in the browser and in email clients. It could
be
called ActiveX, Active Scripting, Java, or Javascript. In addition, runing an
http proxy helps control things like cross-domain sources, cookies,
banners, etc..
