Kat, as our resident security consultant, what do you make of
www.bigfix.com ?

Naturally, I'm a bit dubious, to say the least. But its freeware, been
around since '97 apparently, and few signs of anyone moaning or
warning other users away from it....

1) I checked out http://www.bigfix.com/website/consumer/faq.html, or i
should say i tried to, but there was so much javascript, after 5 minutes of
trying to find the answers to the listed questions, i gave up on it. If they
can't
make a more informative and easier to use site than that, i sure am not going
to think their product will fix all my computers problems.

2) Auto-updates to an OS or device drivers scares me silly. I have lost huge
amounts of data to a "upgrade" what didn't work, worked badly, or trashed
things. This is more prevalent with winXP, and i have known people who had
to buy another install license because an "upgrade" sent by micro$oft
trashed the computer.

Or others have shied away from it too, so there isn't a large userbase to do
complaining. I suspect MS won't offer troubleshooting support if they find a
3rd party product there when they browse thru your puter with their version
Back Orfice to see what's what.
