1. Topica Alternative

Hello all!

Over the last few evenings, I've been speaking with Doug Miller via his
euphoria channel on IRC (EFNet #euphoria). If we continue to experience
problems with Topica, this may be at least a short-term alternative.
Eventually, it might be interesting to set up times for "topic
discussions" or what have you.

Just something to chew on.

The good thing about email is that it is not time-zone sensitive.

And you could search the entire prior post instead of just the 50 you get now.
I liked the old listserv 100x more.

My recollection was Robert stated the reasons at the time of the transfer.

The biggest issue was that the list was being abused, and there was no way
for Robert to moderate what was posted. He wasn't even the owner of the list,
and the list owner was hard to get a hold of. Topica allowed moderation.

In addition, the oh-so-irritating ads offered Robert a way to advertise to
other Topica users, at zero monetary cost.

I suppose I could look up the exact reasons, but I think I'm more or less
correct here.

6. Re: Topica Alternative

Too bad no one want to make an unoffical Euphoria Mailing List,
although I have
my doubts that that would be successful anyways. I wonder, does the old
list still work, or was it finally shut down?

I haven't seen any profanity-filled postings from MTS in some time, so I'd
say it was quite effective.

Like this thread/message, eh? But that's the point of the list. It is more
than just strictly Euphoria Programming. It is a way for the dispersed
Euphoria community to publicly communicate with each other. Very rarely do
any of the "off-topic" discussions trouble the general EuCom, but when they
do, we can alert Robert, if required, and get such discussions taken
offline.

One of the things that seems to be a common thread with people who use this
list say, is that they enjoy the community, as well as Euphoria.

Maybe we can agree on what is definitely not acceptable, but I suspect that
would be hard because there are so many grey areas.

Aye, Thomas. I second each of your words. May I suggest L-Soft list
server at University of Alabama <LISTSERV at BAMA.UA.EDU>? I've been using
a list at this server for more then six years without a single problem!

Now, I'm not sure if this one will get through you (as happened to one
I sent to Ricardo a few days ago...

Ricardo:

The message I meant is that with giga's IP (that I know you got because
you mentioned it to Kat). Well, it never came back to me via Topica.
Maybe the one you got was sent to you directly. ;)
