Thanks Kat, but I have looked through those, didn't find actually 
enough... besides they don't show how to fit it all together and such as 
to make a mud client, *ponders* Ah well.  Thanks anyways.

Try this library/engine, it's in the contribs.

WIN Network Game Engine 60K Andrew Dec 19/01 3.05

A program that makes it easy to play text-based games,  either
single-player or multi-player over a network (such as the Internet or a
LAN). Games can also be played through a web browser by using the
included CGI program on your Web server. No documentation yet, but try
running playSUD.ex and typing 'test' as game name to play the included
example game.
