2. RE: Virus problem with Topica?

Yes, even though much traffic has subsided for me lately, I was
frequently getting flooded with worms. I suspect topica because I
usually use my hotmail addy everywhere else on the net. I also remember
some of them coming from Euforum at topica.com or something like that.

Luckily I can delete them online before downloading hundreds of worms
through a slow modem connection.

Thanks Topica!

3. RE: Virus problem with Topica?

As I suspected!

I've deleted 20 or so of these from my in box just today!

Some day in the future:

AP - The internet has been finally shut down. The governments of the
world have decided to officially shut down the internet when it was
determined that 99% of the traffic on the internet was virus related.
Carrier pigeons are now being distributed as an alternative to IM.
People are flocking to the USPS to send mail the old-fashioned way, but
the USPS is only operating at 5% of its pre-internet capacity.
Customers can expect 1-2 hour waits at their local post office, which
has prompted angry outbursts from patrons. The USPS has released an
official statement regarding the long wait times: "Too bad! We told you
this would happen!" Meanwhile, Western Union has stated it will begin
offering IM capability through telegraph lines still in existence
through most of the country. Since most cell phones are now IP based
this has also shut down cell phone usage across the world. Fortunately
there are still 5 pay phones left in New York and AT&T is taking
reservations for 5 minute blocks of pay phone usage at $50 per minute.

Yes had me email box filled up a few times over the last 48 hours.

I don't think you can blame Topica though.

Just like last week's worm (and the week before, etc,
etc....) this Swen worm is sent from someone's Windows

computer using e-mail addresses harvested from that
computer. Not necessarily addresses just from Outlook
Express, but addresses found in any file on the
computer.

http://news.zdnet.co.uk/internet/security/0,39020375,39116520,00.htm

Of course, anyone who would believe that Microsoft
would send them an update in a e-mail is ignorant,
since Microsoft has stated many times that they
never do that. And what can you say about someone who
would actually run something received via e-mail?

This virus thing is quickly becoming an internet IQ
test, which a lot of people are failing :)
