This was discussed a while ago on the forum. I tried telling everyone that I
never 'activated' anything, and haven't had a problem at all with lock outs,
funny issues or whatever. I change out hardware constantly.
The only problem I've had was with Windows Update. I can't download any
service packs. This, however, is only partially related to the activation.
See, my key was probably registered by someone else and therefore mine will
not work, or my key may not be valid at all. Either way, I have a utility
that I can use to change my key, so every now and then I play with it. I
have a list of 100 or so keys and I mark off which ones I've tried. So far
I'm at about 15 or so, with no luck getting updates.
