In fear of lynching, I didn't write this to alt.folklore.computers (a fav= orite of mine.) So, the problem goes something like this: I have the C sourcecode a simulator for the IBM OS/390 MVS Job Control La= nguage, which some of the people on this list might be familiar with. The= only "errrk" here is that the bugger doesn't compile on my Linux box. So= mething to do with an "extern" command in one of the headers, I gather, n= ot to mention some stuff about filenames in the makefile which I successf= ully kluged. The whole shebang (some shell scripts, *.c files, yacc files, makefile an= d such) is in a quite small-ish ~7kb tarball. I'd really appreciate if so= me kind Linux wizard would take the time and see what is bothering the po= or thing. "What on earth is this guy going to do with a JCL simulator?" is somethin= g that's probably on Your, the reader's, mind right now. The answer is a = very simple one; I'm one of the sysadmin at my school, with the network c= onsisting of god-knows-how-many win9x computers and two servers, an NT ju= nk and our ancient Linux 486 wheeze-box. I admin the linux one, and get t= icked off several times a day when some dimwit freshman goes and decides = to blaspheme the hallowed Server by IRCing, MUDing or preforming other un= -good actions. So, being a BOFH, I decide to replace the standard shell (= bash) with the JCL shell I found. "Hey," I think, "if they can use JCL, t= hey've EARNED the right to type three lines of smileys in IRC." I figure I'd just leave a copy of the 315 page, 105,507 word "OS/390 V2R4= .0 MVS JCL User's Guide" lying next to the keyboard, with the words "EVIL= " scrawled on the first page in shaky letters. K=E4y muuten katsomassa toga.com nettitavaratalon kes=E4alennuksia! Osoit= ehan on http://www.sunpoint.net/SunAds/click.htm?mode=3Dfooter&id=3D8&jum= p=3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.toga.com%2Ffi

Having been forced to use JCL in a former life, I can't help but ask, "Isn't there an easier way?" Maybe a firewall or something? Irv
