Don't know how i got "Alex Ford" construed as "Hawke`" , but anyhow, i was there, no bot, and no humans either. The net is linked, somewhat, about as good as dalnet gets, 25 to 29 servers linked (servers on dalnet drop off all the time), no pings from chanserv, 16,000 channels with one person in all of them (unless they are porn, in which case there are 200 in them.....), etc. Wassup? And why not a better irc net? There are faster and more reliable nets out there. It's not like you need dalnet, or their reputation or problems, sorcery.net has no porn rooms, for instance. Kat

Why bother to set one up if no one comes in to chat? It is *easy* real-time communication, with many abilities and options, even tho i have no one to communicate with anymore. Seems everyone wants to exclude people from life for one reason or another, usually because the other person is a little different, and 99.999% of people can't expand their rigidly fixed mental boxes to accomodate exception processing in their preconcieved steriotypes, even online!! For instance, 10% people often state as a fact that i cannot be typing this manually, and then they refuse to talk to me on irc. So, yes, i like the method of irc, but it is still populated by (or "infested by", take your pick) humans. The drawback to irc is the lack of fault tolerance in the tcp connection. I'm not advocating udp, i'd prefer tcp and the original premise of the internet: data will get thru in a timely fashion, no matter how many servers are taken down. Sadly, this goal has yet to be realised, especially on irc. I am just trying to gather stats on the current protocol's connection liabilities for now, but having to stop everything and figure out Windoze is slowing me down a lot. Kat
