1. OffTopic: C, PERL, 4DOS - Major headache... Just shoot me.

I just want a DOS or Win32 compiled PERL 5.
Quick fix: will someone send me a compiled copy of PERL 5 for DOS or Win32?

I'm happy with my standard DOS. I don't want 4DOS, and don't care much
about C compilers or the PERL source code. Now that I have that off my
chest let me continue with my problem/headache.

I have the C source for PERL 5 something another. It claims to be
compilable on any one of several C compilers. Borland C++ 5.01, Mingw32
EGCS, and a few others. TC 2.01 isn't one of them BUT... I did download
EGCS about the same time I downloaded the PERL source. I tried to install
it but who knows.... Let's assume that I manage to get EGCS installed
properly and it works. The next hurdle is that it can't be compiled under
the DOS that comes with Win95. I can think of a few choice words for this
flaw. It will however compile under 4DOS. Once compiled it is suppose to
work fine under the 4DOS as well as the DOS that comes with Win95.

If I, regretfully, install 4DOS will it be easy to uninstall or will I have
to beat either my computer or myself to death?

Well, after all; Major Headache is not as bad as General Failure!

Not only is 4DOS easy to install and uninstall, but it can also be
'commented out' any time. Reboot, and you're back with old command.com,
which never really went away. If you work from Win32 (or from a Linux or
OS/2 emulation, for that matter), you can even open different DOS sessions,
some with command.com (the original), and some with 4DOS.

Anyway, as far as I know, 4DOS won't hurt you any. It's mostly enhancements,
including ports of a good many Unix commands MS-DOS forgot to swipe.

Luck.
