Congratulations and thanks to Jerry Story for the
LINUX port of DMAK!
Now I have a question... I recall that your initial
experience with Linux was a bit frustrating. Yet, it
seems quiet evident that the LINUX port is superior to
the Windows version both in appearance and speed of
exectution. I'm sure the port was a tremendous
learning experience - but what is the bottom line from
your point of view as far as comparing euphoria
programming under LINUX and GTK ( Irv's Lib ) vs
Windows?

1. EuGTK's clist is vastly superior to win32lib's listview (at least the
last time I tried listview, which was some time ago and it might have been
improved since then) . Superior both in numbers of things you can do with it
and absence of bugs (so far as I know). In the Windows version, I used
ordinary list instead of listview.
2. As a consequence of using list instead of listview in the Windows
version, it was necessary to use a font with all the characters the same
width (eg: i and w), and therefore I did not allow the user choice of font.
In the Linux version, there is choice of font.
3. The superior speed of the Linux version, I think is because database.e
works faster on Linux than on Windows.
4. I had some help from Irv Mullins.
5. I found EuGTK more confusing than than win32lib, but maybe that's
largely because it's a new thing for me.
Bottom Line: I intend to do some more Linux programming.
It seems to me the Linux world has a severe shortage of quality programs
compared with the windows world. For example, in the Windows world there are
lots and lots of nutrition programs, but in the Linux world there are only
two nutrition programs, according to freshmeat: gnutrition and nut. I think
mine is better than both of them, my opinion only, feel free to disagree.
