1. Off topic: Floppy problems

This is going to seem weird. It sure did to me. Last night, I tried to read
a disk, and I got a blue screen from DriveSpace. I figured the disk had
gone bad because I got them 4 years ago. Apparently, it WASN'T the floppy.
Soon, every floppy in the house seemed to have gone bad. Whenever I try to
read a floppy in DOS under Windows, it says "General failure". Under pure
DOS, "Sector not found". I think the problem *might* be a loose cable. They
do have a reputation of coming loose from time to time, right? Anyway, I'm
open to suggestions and any other kind of response.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Unless you regulary shake and smack your computer or have opened the case,
the floppy cable should never come loose. I've never seen it in 20 years
of experience. Most likely is that your heads are dirty. Go out and buy a
$5.00 cleaning diskette, and that will most likely solve your problem. If
not, you may need to blow it out with some compressed air. I suppose it's
possible that the drive has gone bad, but I've yet to see that, either.
Are you certain that DriveSpace is not the culprit?

Have you checked your bias to see if the floppy is set for the correct

floppy type ? Make sure no other device is using interrupt six

which is the floppy interrupt. Watch the drive light when you try to

read a floppy, if it doesn't come on then the drive maybe bad. Also

don't use any important disks until you find the problem. You may also

want to scan for a vruis if you have been using software that has come

from a source other than your own.
