1. Scroll Text

Hi everyone,

I sent the Scroll Text program to Robert & it has been in the Recent
Contributions list for a bit. I am only now getting around to
mentioning it here.

Its purpose is to enable a user to view text files that automatically
scroll up the screen in a "smooth scrolling" way. Odd as I am, I kind
of enjoy reading for pleasure as well as knowledge, on the monitor.
Thus, I download all manner of books, short stories, poetry, etc. from
Project Gutenburg and others. But, I really dislike the jerky
movement of text as each new line comes into view. My old Commodore
did a very nice smooth scroll. (Nostalgic sigh)

Anyway, Scroll Text uses Jiri's putsxy.e to produce the (relatively)
smooth scroll. The program allows loading any file with a ".txt"
extension from any drive and it "remembers" the path and line where
you left off reading, so you can keep going easily.

The code is homely and the functionality could use lots of
improvement. If anyone can make the scroll smoother, improve the
scroll speed code, or do anything else to make this a nice little
utility, please jump in and do it, or let me know and I'll try to do
it. Also I would enjoy seeing this done for (caff) Windows and
Linux. (I have a dream of crawling into my computer and, with Linux
purring along, pulling the plug on Bill. That will be a while...)

hidden behind it smile]
