1. OpenEuphoria is now a part of Open Source Collective!

Hey, remember those big things I said were coming in 2025? This is the first one!

As of today (like, literally a few hours ago) Open Source Collective has accepted my application for financial hosting of OpenEuphoria. Basically, this means that instead of using a PayPal account owned by an individual (C.K. Lester, who we thank very much for having done so) we now are now part of a platform for managing financial contributions and expenses, backed by the legal infrastructure of an actual organization.

What is Open Source Collective? (OSC)

Open Source Collective is a 501c6 nonprofit organization working for the common interests of those who create and use open-source software. As a nonprofit fiscal host (a.k.a. fiscal sponsor or foundation), OSC provides the financial and legal infrastructure for thousands of open source projects. They're the 'API' between the world of open source communities and the world of accounting and invoices. Open Source Collective uses the Open Collective platform to provide fiscal hosting services for open source projects.

What is Open Collective? (OC)

Open Collective is a platform where communities can collect and disburse money transparently, to sustain and grow their projects. Open Collective is for collaborative groups, like meetups or open-source projects, and for those who want to support them. The platform provides tools for legal entities to fiscally sponsor Collectives under their umbrella, empowering people to create associations without friction. Anyone can contribute from anywhere by credit card, with donations denominated in the currency of the Fiscal Host.

What is the cost?

Open Source Collective charges a 10% hosting fee on all incoming transactions. The hosting fee is what a Fiscal Host charges a Collective for its services, such as holding funds, making expense payouts, meeting tax obligations, and access to the Open Collective software platform. There are no setup fees, balance minimums, monthly or annual fees, or any other charges. Besides the Host Fee, the only other fees you'll see are payment processor fees charged by Stripe, PayPal, etc.

What's changing?

Immediately, not much changes. I've updated the "Sponsor" link on GitHub and donated the remaining funds from the old PayPal account. Anyone can now contribute with a single donation or sign up for monthly Backer ($5/mo) or Member ($10/mo) tiers. The latter will include the aforementioned "member" badge, once I get us migrated to Discourse (still chipping away at that). Moving forward, you'll start seeing donations going in and payments going out for web hosting.

I'm sure you've got questions. Fire away.
