I have just purchased Linux (Mandrake 7.2) and need some help installing it to boot the way I want it to. My wife and I share the computer and she is willing to have me take the disk space if she never has to see the new OS. Is there a way I can set things up so Windows will boot from the hard drive but I can boot Linux from a floppy or from the distro CD? Any advice from the Linux experts? Thanks. -- Mike

Mike, I have win98 and mandrake 7.2 dual booting on my computer. When you install the program it will set up a boot sector on your hard drive with a program called grub. Then when you reboot after the installation you will be presented with a screen with a choice of linux or windows. There is also a another dual boot program in linux called LILO. But I like Grub better because of the way it presents you a graphical screen at the boot up. You can set how long it will remain in that boot choice and which operating system you want to boot by default, by going into Drakconf in your linux program. Drakconf is a graphical program to configure different options in you linux system. Bernie, I downloaded you graphics program. I have been experimenting with Linux for a while but I could not get the program to run. I don't know what it is supposed to do anyhow. In most files I get for linux I have an executable that I can run usually in /usr/bin or sbin--by clicking on it or running it from the command line. Since I am totally new to programming of any kind and euphoria I need to know how to execute the program or turn it into an executable.
