I've got a program that might be going international, and I have some questions.
Can a Euphoria program work out of the box on, say, a French PC? Say the French PC is running Windows 7. It's basically the same version I'm running (Windows 7, English version), just with a French UI, right? What about Spanish and other languages?
My understand is that all computers everywhere (at least from the "big suppliers") are English-based with language interface packs on top. Is that an accurate assessment?
Many years ago I had some experience with a client somewhere "out there." I found that the data returned from the OS to my program was slightly different than what my English PC returned, so functionality was messed up. Just wondering what I need to consider before going international. Links, opinions, and relevant commentary welcome!

I don't personally know much about internationalization (sometimes abbreviated as i18n), but Euphoria does have a locale library which would be a good place to start.
The biggest concern for a program is probably time/date formats. Not the only concern, but with regards to a computer program's input/output expectations. Another big concern might be character sets.
I don't know if that was helpful or not.

A euphoria program will run on any compatible OS, whether the language be English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, etc. Whether or not it will be usable or produce meaningful results on such a PC is another matter. The answer depends a great deal on what the program does.
Internationalizing a program is a very broad field. It can include presenting data in a form suitable for the locale, being able to handle data in a foreign language, and showing a GUI in the users preferred language. An enormous amount of information is available on all these things.
If you could clarify your goals then someone could probably make useful suggestions.

I use Windows 7 64 bits French version. As far as Windows is concerned you are right the basic Windows comes in English flavor and the various languages packs adapt it to other languages and locales. I have written bilingual applications (french/English) in euphoria successfully. Concerning locales like date format Windows 32/64 API as a set of functions to take care of this. here the link.

P.S. If your application use standard dialogs you don't have to translate buttons labels like <ok>, <cancel> it is already translated as any standard labels or messages.
