1. An Idea For Contest #3

I know there won't be a contest 3 for awhile, if there is one. However I do have an idea. How about making a small game for Contest 3. The game section has been lacking in the archive. So many genres,
Action,Shooter,RPG,Puzzle,Racing/Driving,Fighting,Arcade,Platform
Pong,Tetris, an original game. I know there are some pong and tetris clones in the archive, but it wouldn't hurt to have a few more. Plus it would be nice to see some original games. While this is just an idea, I would join for sure if contest 3 was to make a game.

Making a game should not be a contest but a collaboration. Only way for a game to be a contest is if it is text based. Something as simple as a tetris clone requires a lot of effort. Create a menu, do you save games, keep score. How do you select items, use the mouse? Use a GUI? Which platforms? Games is a topic brought up time and a gain. Ironically creating games is what gets people into programming and requires a dedicated programmer to accomplish. Gaming companies have a team of programmers for a reason. Even if you have all the tools setup, you have to know how to use those tools to create the game you want.
A game for a contest would need at least a Month long deadline. And a few restricting specs would be advised as well. So, there you have it. My $0.02 worth.

Actually there will be a contest #3. We have built a judge program this last contest and is the reason why scores are so late coming out (in addition to Dec 22 being release day), but next time around it will be much faster. Anyway, Derek has a partial spec for what will probably be Contest #3, but there will hopefully be #4, #5, #6, ... So... Keep ideas coming in. If we document them, we will not forget them.
