1. Logo criteria

I'm uploading my last logo the RDS archive. Use Inkscape to examine and modify the logo and see what you can create. Small changes have a big impact on the logo produced. "Ungroup" the elements to move one element at a time. "Export" to produce a png and share your results on the forum.
It is safe to critique this logo, so have a go at it.

Logo design criteria
Hopefully this process will let us select a suitable logo.
Branding
The overall impression of the "product", goes beyond just a logo.
What is the defining characteristic of Euphoria?
One "theme" could be {} based on the sequence.
I program in {}euphoria , because it is easier...
An obvious theme is the multi-color rainbow associated with the mental "state of euphoria".
We often use "eu" as a theme.
Another theme would be based on the letter "E".
Logo
Gives the "brand" a distinctive (non-verbal) representation of the product
Criteria
The problem is that these issues are hard to quantify, but essential for a good logo. An artist can always tell when an "non-artist" does a work.
Criteria | notes | pro | con |
strong, balanced | looks elegant, pleasing to viewer
bold | clearly visible | ||
translation | will it look good in different colors, sizes, applications
practical | works in print, screen, website, t-shirt, ...
unique | stands out compared to other logos
timeless | does it suffer from logo trends, or is it a keeper
color | does not depend of color for effect (i.e. rainbow becomes mush when in black ink)
color | associate color (shade, choices) with product
abstract | is it so clever that people don't recognize it
cliche | i.e. swooshes get copied a lot
fad typeface | clean font looks more professional
exaggeration | does it imply something the product is not
scale | works in small and large sizes
pretty | cute graphics just to be pretty
busy | elaborate details, fussy, rather than quickly recognizable
initials | use initials rather than name ( i.e. IBM needed effort to establish)
imagination | fresh, simulating, honest, elicit an "aha"
K.I.S.S. | simplicity is a virtue. clean easy
global | do people in anti-podal locations value the logo the same way
testing | lots of opinions must be gathered
consistent | logo and color scheme used across all applications
memorable | often color based, plus symbolic value
reflective | does it represent the product
adaptable | appeals to both modern and conservative users
sustainable | contemporary but classic
continuity | works with the "Euphoria" name
describe | verbal association with a graphic logo
stubborn | if even a few people don't like your logo, it will not work |
Logistics
The logo must be produced in a svg format. This in turn allows the production of png images of any type and size.
Use Inkscape. For Windows users, "Portable Inkscape" works without needing an installation. Linux users can install a native Inkscape.
Problems
The name "euphoria" has a lot of noise associated with it. It is used for mental state, perfume, liqueur, smoothies, clothing stores, gamers, music group, hair salon, chocolate, upholstery, ...
The letters "EU" are clearly associated with European Union.
Monograms using "e" and "u" do not seem to work.
A lot of "cute" variations exist: Uforia, Uphoria, U4ia, (u)phoria!, UFOria

Looks like we must wait for RDS to "approve" the upload.

Or you could find a file host for us to use.

Try one of these two sites. The file is the same at both:
