1. Forking Messages... how and why?

Almost missed this post as it was in a different thread.
The original thread should have had text added such as "Message forked into..." with a link to the new thread. This is very important for keeping subjects on topic, which in turn makes things much easier to read, understand and search for.
When a post to a thread goes off topic, it should be forked. Multiple topics should not be going on back to back in the same topic.
It is as easy as replying to a message. There is a "reply" link and there is also a "fork" link. To fork into a new thread, simply click the "fork" link, fill in a subject and then continue just as though you were replying to the original message. That's it!

I wish more forums had this feature. Heck, I wish my work had this feature!
