Hi Might I suggest as a test, you create the minimum possible program with the suspicious function, then run it with ex and exw. I still suspect this is a causeway / xp problem, and one that would be solved by using exw. Note that exw still displays a console for console text output if that is what you need. I have used dir() and walk_dir() on win xp with console output with no problems Chris
