Fantastic, Chris! smile

Are you porting JetVetSQL to wxEuphoria?

Oh, I just noticed this from DistroWatch:

The Puppy Linux development team has released a new edition
of Puppy Linux - OneBone Puppy. Without any graphical applications,
the entire distribution takes only 26.4 MB: "This is a play-thing,
requested by a few people on the forum, and definitely not for the
average user. In other words, Linux commandline nerds only! OneBone
does not have any X GUI applications. It does have Elinks web browser,
Ytree file manager and MP text editor. The Lucent and SmartLink modem
drivers are included. There are lots of text-mode applications out
there and a very interesting flavour of Puppy could be created, based
on this starting point." Read the rest of the release announcement
on the project's news page.

I bet JetVetSQL will run on OneBone Puppy as is.

3. Re: Puppy Linux and euphoria

Is Puppy Linux the one that is like 60MB and runs off a CD?
I think I have that somewhere.
I've run Euphoria on Slax Linux, which boots from a CD like Puppy.

Perhaps, one day, it was designed like that, database separate from the
program,so that other programs could just slot in beside it using the same dat,
but the first step was to get a _really_ simple text mode program going - anyone
in the practice can pick this program up in 10 minutes.

GUIs are nice, but a poorly designed can leave the non computer literate
completely non-plussed and lost.

Another 'driving around in the car thought line' was to have a CGI app runing
thruough apache attached to the databases - essentially the user could choose lo
end text mode, GUI, or web based access, to the same dataset.

I love this language!

Haven't tried it yet, I'mn sure it would, but all you would need to do would be
to install sqlite.xxx.so to /usr/lib, and off you go. With a little work, you
could probably create a jetvetsql server cd for a complete network (printing
without cups would be a pain though)

Another 'driving around in the car train of thought' was to create a dot pup for
euphoria, so that it automatically installed, along with wxeuphoria, and set the
paths and so on.

I can strongly recomand anyone wanting to play with linux to get puppy linux,
just chuck in the cd, and when you're done, just take out the cd and reboot - and
what it says about old computers springing back to life is totally true.
