1. BEGINNERS BOOK

Hi Folks,
For years and years and years .... Robert kindly had a picture of my "book" on the website and gave up on it when I simply couldn't get the time to complete it. Anyway, I did a lot more on it and, recently, a couple of guys shamed me into getting a move on with it. It's still not complete, but it IS 80% there. Their kind comments have led me to believe that what I HAVE written will be useful to those starting off in Euphoria. SO, while I get on with doing what I promised to do, here's a download link to it:
http://cid-f39201802f0c5c88.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/euphoricMysteries%20v0.2.exe
I had intended to charge a small fee for it (it has taken a LOT of time to produce) but I'm so ashamed at taking so long, I am releasing it free of charge - even when it is complete. All I ask is that you give me your feedback.
Be gentle with it! It's my love child.

Hi Guys,
I have now uploaded a smaller, zipped version of the book. The link is:

When I try to run the .exe, I get an error: "Windows Microsoft Media Player is not installed on this platform."
What is the book written in? Why an exe file? I am on Windows Vista.

It's proprietary software to allow decent images and animations. First time I've heard of this error. I'll check it out with the author.

It runs perfectly for me on my XP machine.
On my Vista machine I get error messages:
"Microsoft Windows Media Player is not installed on this platform. It can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com"
and in another window...
"The Ebook has not the necessary language resources. Language string #47 is missing."
Other than that, it's a truly excellent book. Well done Bill!
Rob C.

Sorry about this, Vista guys, it's the fault of the compiler I am using. I have sent off a bug report to the author, who has a 24-hour SLA. If he has a patch, I will re-compile and notify everyone of the new upload. As you might all have guessed, I work in XP. Wouldn't touch Vista with a barge pole right now.
Glad you like it, Rob.
For those of you wondering, like Jeremy, why I made this as an exe, it is simply to protect the IPR and to give a more "book-like" experience. Remember, I originally intended to charge a fee for the book. You were able to see the first three chapters for free and then, when you clicked any chapter further than that, you'd be returned to the license page where you'd be invited to enter the key you got from me when you paid your fee. I've disabled all of that, clearly.
Anyway, soon as I have the low-down from the compiler author, I'll sort the Vista guys out.

Thanks! Looking forward to to seeing it. BTW... I've never had any MS operating system as stable as Vista has been for me. If XP was the current OS from MS, I'd still be using my mac laptop w/OS X. Vista has made my computer be able to use Windows apps again.

Is Jeremy raiding his wife's closet again?!

My only complaint with Vista is the unreliable sleep function.

Hi Bill,
Glad to see you here. I've been using your book (my copy goes straight to Chapter 8) to teach my nephew some coding. Well, I should say we're both learning.
Anyway, did you finish chapters 9 and 10 already? If so, I'll go get the newest.
All the best, Euler

Funny, my problem is an unreliable wake function.

Hi Euler, same here. Nice to hear from you. I am in the process of finishing them but have been held up by this Vista question.

The same, only different.
I have a lot of auto-updates allowed. I think... the problem stems from one of them getting installed without notice. Then when you put C to sleep, the wake-up doesn't recognize the update and hangs. Theorizing, it is because the update hasn't been registered, which happens during the system shutdown.
