Jeremy:
Is OpenSolaris as slow as Java ?
What is it's advantage over other OS's ?

I am not an operating systems guru, but you have two things to deal with here. 1. Java was slow in the old days, but today it's can hold it's own on most tasks, especially server environments. 2. OpenSolaris has one of the most advanced file systems known to man right now. It's a very robust, commercial grade and now open source operating systems. To read all the details, I'd suggest you browse around http://opensolaris.com. If you find it interesting, download the ISO and give it a go. It's very easy to install and get running.

I had to count, but you're right!
- DOS
- Windows
- Linux
- FreeBSD
- OS X
- OpenSolaris (SunOS)
BTW... I learned something today when the name was questioned. SunOS is the operating system's name. OpenSolaris is the operating environment, i.e. all the tools, GUI, programs, etc... that sit on top of the operating system.
